Everything you need to know about contest requirements and conditions of registration.
Contestants are required to comply with various health, safety and integrity requirements.
The application process involves 4 stages (see below) and approval can only be given once you have completed all the stages and submitted all required documents.
It may take you several weeks to progress through these stages and your application must be submitted at least 5 days prior to any contest entered. Please commence the process as soon as possible and do not delay in arranging to get a blood test and an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible.
Use the application checklist below and create a portal account to commence your application.
Get medically cleared by your doctor, including a blood test clearance, and upload a Certificate of Fitness.
Complete the online education modules.
Pay a registration fee.
Allow enough time prior to your first contest to progress through the checklist. Partially completed applications, waiting for doctor appointments, incomplete documents, unsigned forms and unfinished requirements will not be progressed and will cause delays.
Start your application on the Combat Sports Commission Portal and use the Portal Guide if you need help.
MFA is required when you sign-up for the first time, to secure your account and to verify your email. Use the MFA User Guide if needed.
You'll need to provide contact details, contest records, statement of experience and list any current or prior criminal convictions or charges.
Upload a clear scan or photo of your driver’s licence, passport or WA Photo Card, as proof of identity.
A selfie is fine but use a plain background, no filters, colour photo and provide a neutral expression with no hats or sunglasses.
You'll need to get a medical clearance involving both a blood test and a certificate of fitness. See the section below for how to get a medical clearance.
Scan or photo (every page) of your Certificate of Fitness and Serology Form and (if relevant) Therapeutic Use Exemption Form and upload to the portal.
There are 2 modules to complete, see the section below for how to complete the online education modules.
Registration is valid for 3 years and if registering as a contestant the fee is $101.50 which you can pay online.
PLEASE NOTE: It is a legal offence (liable to a $12,000 penalty under the Combat Sports Act 1987) to provide false and misleading information in your application.
When you apply to become a contestant you will need to submit a form (signed by a Doctor) called the Certificate of Fitness and Serology Clearance. The certificate of fitness will only be valid for 12 months and the serology clearance only valid for 6 months. This means that you will need to continue updating your medical clearance documents even after you've been registered.
Arrange to get a blood test by requesting a serology referral from your doctor's office. You need to request the right type of serology test so use the Serology Factsheet and it may take several days for your results to be available.
Book a doctor's appointment for a certificate of fitness (after your blood test results are ready) and take the Certificate of Fitness and Serology Form. You can fill in Part 1 before your appointment and make sure your Dr signs and completes the rest.
Some medications and substances are prohibited through sports anti-doping requirements. Check the Global Dro website for prohibited substances and discuss with your doctor if you need a Therapeutic Use Exemption Form.
There are 2 Education Modules to complete (approx. 30 - 45 minutes each). You can do them on the same day or different days but you will not be registered or eligible to compete until you have finished both courses.
Parents or guardians of applicants under 18 years of age must also complete the online education units.

If you are currently registered or licensed in another state or territory as a combat sports contestant (or equivalent) you may be eligible for an automatic deemed registration.
Under the Automatic Mutual Recognition scheme, a person who is registered to undertake certain activities covered by their home state or territory may be entitled to undertake equivalent activities in Western Australia. No additional fees will be incurred but you must notify the Combat Sports Commission of your intention to compete, participate or work at a WA combat sports contest and an interstate clearance must be granted from one of the following:
Notify the Combat Sports Commission and apply for automatic mutual recognition by submitting the notification form, prior to commencing any activities within WA.
Registrations are valid for 3 years and if you've kept the CSC updated with any changes to your mobile phone number, you will receive an SMS reminding you when your registration is due to expire. Expiry dates for your registration, Certificate of Fitness and serology clearance can also be found in the front pages of your Contestant Record book.
You can renew you registration by signing into your account on the the Combat Sports Commission Portal and please refer to the Portal Guide if you require further information. If you have not previously completed the online Combat Sports Concussion Course you will need to complete the course for your renewal to be approved.
Serology clearances are only valid for 6 months. Do not upload your blood test (laboratory) results, use the interim Serology Clearance Form (if you are not already due for your next Certificate of Fitness).
A CoF is only valid for 12 months and requires a serology check. Both clearances (fitness and serology) are on the CoF Form but arrange with your doctor to get a blood test done, before your appointment.
If you get a Hard Bout Card for concussion or knock-out you will need to see a doctor and cannot compete until you have submitted a Concussion Clearance Form. Refer to the Concussion Guidelines.
When competing in a contest you are expected to behave appropriately, abide by certain conditions and follow the contest rules. There are are also several mandatory processes to complete before and after your bout. Refer to the following for further information.
The Code of Conduct sets clear expectations for behaviour and helps create a safe, respectful and fair combat sports environment.
Once registered you will be bound to certain conditions of registration which are set out in the Guidelines and Conditions for Combat Sports Registrants. Age and experience padding (protective gear) requirements apply.
Contest rules are approved by the Combat Sports Commission but selected by the Promoter. Make sure you know the rules for your sport and realise that different events and sanctioning bodies use different rules.
Prior to your bout you will need to attend the pre-contest medical where a doctor will determine if you can compete.
You must attend the official weigh-in within the requisite time and must present to the scales in a fit and healthy state.
You can't compete without showing your Contestant Record Book and if you forget to bring it or lose it you will have to pay for a replacement.
Directly after your bout you must present to the ringside doctor to get checked and get your book back. You may be medically suspended.
