Now Sounds with Community Arts Network (CAN)

Creative Communities COVID-19 Recovery Program.

Now Sounds is an intercultural dance, music, spoken word and video project created by young people from First Nations and multicultural communities in the Cities of Canning, Stirling and the remote town of Kununurra.

Now Sounds ‘Your Way’ involved a series of creative workshops facilitated at local schools and community centres in each of the 3 regions of the project. The workshops created space for the young participants to develop skills across a range of dynamic art forms, including beat-making, lyric-writing and rapping, dance, choreography, performance and music-videomaking, while collaboratively producing a song and music video.

The workshops were conducted by the Community Arts Network WA, alongside renowned artists Optamus (Scott Griffiths), Flewnt (Josh Eggington), Mubanga Culture (Mubanga) and Anesu.

The project connected participants of Indigenous Australian, Pacific Islander, African, Asian, European and Latin American heritage. The project content was cross-cultural and multilingual and resulted in building intercultural friendships, and celebrating the experiences, ambitions and cultures of Western Australia’s diverse communities.
