The appointments bring a wealth of expertise across healthcare, governance, regulation and public sector leadership.
CSC Chair, the Hon Bob Kucera AM APM JP said the new members will further strengthen the CSC's ability to promote safety, integrity and welfare of combat sport participants in Western Australia.
"Dr MacKinnon and Inspector Scott bring valuable skills and experience that complement the CSC's work in safeguarding combat sports participants and supporting a safe and professional industry,” Mr Kucera said.
“The Commission looks forward to the contributions both members will make as it continues to oversee the health, safety and integrity of combat sports across the State.”
Associate Professor MacKinnon is specialist general practitioner, Principal GP and owner of Skye Medical and a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
He brings extensive clinical and governance experience relevant to contestant safety, including injury assessment, medical fitness, return-to-sport decisions and regulatory medical assessment. He also has expertise in communicable disease risk assessment and HIV and viral hepatitis medicine.
He is an accredited HIV prescriber and educator and has contributed as a co-author to the Australasian HIV Management Guidelines.
In addition to his clinical work, Associate Professor MacKinnon holds senior academic, governance and health leadership roles. He is an Associate Professor at Curtin Medical School and a Board Member of the North Metropolitan Health Service, where he chairs the Board Safety, Quality and Consumer Engagement Committee and serves on the Board Finance Committee.
He brings substantial experience in clinical governance, risk management, quality improvement and the oversight of complex healthcare services.
Associate Professor MacKinnon’s combination of frontline clinical expertise, academic leadership and board-level governance experience will be a significant asset to the Commission as it continues to promote the safety, integrity and welfare of combat sports contestants across Western Australia.
Inspector Scott currently serves as an Assistant Divisional Officer with the WA Police Force and brings almost 30 years of public sector leadership and operational experience to the Commission.
Throughout his 29-year policing career, Inspector Scott has served in metropolitan and regional WA. Across his career he has developed expertise in governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and community safety.
This operational experience provides valuable insight into the administration and oversight of regulated activities across the State.
