The upgrades are supported by a $3.5 million investment by the State Government as part of its $165 million Outdoor Adventure Tourism package.
Stage 1 of the Kwinana Loop Trail Master Plan will deliver upgrades to 21 kilometres of shared-use trail surrounding the Kwinana townsite, including 3 kilometres of trail realignments and more than 17 kilometres of resurfacing.
The project will begin with the realignment of key sections of the trail, followed by resurfacing works and upgrades to entry gates, fencing, and directional and interpretive signage.
The Kwinana Loop Trail provides a unique opportunity for locals and visitors to take in some of the area's best views and experience the region's coastal bushland.
Currently, the trail surface varies between crushed limestone, concrete, sand and asphalt, with the resurfacing works to improve the consistency and accessibility of the trail, making it more appealing to a broader range of users.
Further development of the Kwinana Loop Trail will also provide an attractive metropolitan option for bushwalkers, runners, mountain bikers and other outdoor enthusiasts, while helping attract visitors to the region through an accessible and immersive trail experience.
The upgrades come as Perth prepares to host the World Trails Conference 2026 in October.
The four-day conference, themed "Trails to the Future: Connection, Culture and Conservation", brings together trail managers, tourism operators, community leaders, educators, and outdoor enthusiasts to collaborate, and contribute to global conversations about shaping the future of sustainable recreation, tourism, and conservation.
The conference will also be showcasing Western Australia's world-class trail experiences to international and interstate visitors through pre and post event tours of WA trails combining hiking, mountain biking, packrafting, cultural tours and local culinary delights.
