The milestone follows the WA Government’s investment of nearly $1.45 million to get the project back on track and support completion of the long-awaited turf and irrigation upgrades, as well as $285,000 provided through the Club Night Lights Program for the flood lighting of the oval.
The official opening took place on Friday 19 June, with a community open day featuring a an official welcome, smoking ceremony, free barbecue, and Auskick clinics, providing local residents with an opportunity to experience the upgraded facility and celebrate its completion.
The following day, the oval hosted Round 1 of the SEKFL season, marking the return of competitive football to the venue and the beginning of a new chapter for community sport in Halls Creek.
The upgraded oval is expected to serve as a central gathering place for the community, supporting sport, recreation and community events for years to come.
The WA Government committed additional funding and support to ensure the project could be completed, helping deliver a modern, sustainable playing surface that meets the needs of local clubs, players and the broader community.
The project is part of the WA Government's PlayOn WA: 2030 by 2030 initiative, which is driving the delivery of quality community sport and recreation infrastructure across the State.
PlayOn WA aims to foster healthier, more connected communities by ensuring Western Australians — no matter where they live — have access to high quality sporting facilities.
