Project update

In preparation for the heavy demolition and removal works, protective measures were put in place to ensure the venue’s much‑loved features remain safe throughout construction.

This includes wrapping the 3,000‑pipe organ and the 10‑metre Tom Sanders mural, as well as installing protective panels around walls, pillars, the spiral staircase, the stage, wall lights, and the lift to prevent any damage during construction.

Additionally, jarrah panelling from ceilings and walls are being removed to be restored off site!

What’s happening on site

Preparatory works inside the Concert Hall continue, with services being isolated, carpets removed, surfaces prepared, equipment brought in, and site facilities set up.

The contractor has begun the heavy demolition of the northern forecourt, removing sections of structural infrastructure using a 35 ton excavator. Soldier piling works to reinforce the boundary along the verge of the northern forecourt are also ongoing.

What’s coming up

Over the coming months, construction activity will move into several highly visible phases on site.

This includes continued works within the auditorium stage pit area, further demolition, new concrete blade walls, reinforcement and pours which prepare the space for the installation of the new stage lift later in the programme.

Internal stair upgrade works are also progressing, with new steel infill sections, grouting and reinstatement of concrete to improve circulation and accessibility. In parallel, structural concrete pours, in situ wall construction, façade framing and early services rough in will advance across the building, marking a shift into the core construction phase of the project.

There will be more to see throughout the year as key aspects of the redevelopment come to life, introducing a range of enhancements that will elevate the venue as a premier music and entertainment destination for local, national and international shows, events and performances.
