Intro
One standout initiative funded through this program was the Game On! Resilience Project, a collaborative effort between Fair Game Australia and A Stitch in Time (ASIT).
Co-designed with mental health services and local leaders, the Game On! Resilience Project delivered structured, inclusive activities focused on physical wellbeing, emotional resilience, and community connection to more than 1,000 participants across Fitzroy Crossing, Fitzroy Valley and Wananami.
Fair Game CEO Nicki Bardwell described the initiative as a holistic approach to health combining fitness games, hygiene education, music therapy, creative writing and mindfulness sessions.
“The collaboration allowed us to offer a more holistic approach to health,” she said.
“It also helped us build trust in the community, which is key to long-term impact.
“There’s very little access to sports gear out here and Fair Game’s donations mean kids can get out and play.”
Three weeks of programming were delivered during school terms, with an additional 3 weeks in Wananami during school holidays.
Fair Game also piloted its Healthy Minds program, using mindful movement to teach emotional regulation and self-calming techniques. ASIT’s resilience-building workshops complemented this by creating safe spaces for kids to express themselves and build life skills.
The project aligned with several WA Government strategies, including the Aboriginal Youth Wellbeing Commitment and the WA Suicide Prevention Framework.
