From 1 July 2025, the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) replaces the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC).

It marked the culmination of a vibrant week of racing in the Kimberley town, with the Broome Turf Club also drawing thousands of racegoers to its popular Ladies Day race meeting on Tuesday.
The Broome racecourse, the Kimberley’s premier racing venue, will soon undergo a makeover as the beneficiary of $2.6 million in infrastructure upgrades as part of the $25.2 million Royalties for Regions Racing Fund (RRRF).
The stables, some facilities and jockey accommodation will be upgraded as part of the Broome Turf Club revamp. The RRRF will also fund key infrastructure projects at 24 regional thoroughbred and harness racing club venues across the State.
The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety is managing the RRRF initiative, and the projects will be delivered via Racing and Wagering Western Australia in consultation with race clubs.
The Broome Cup generates substantial social and economic benefit for the State, with racing in the Kimberley region accounting for around $22.9 million of the estimated $1.3 billion that the racing industry contributes to the WA economy each year.
