The Community Use of School Sporting Facilities (CUSSF) Program is developing partnerships between public schools and sporting groups to better utilise existing facilities.

Thanks to $10 million in funding from the WA Government, clubs such as South Perth Junior Cricket Club (SPJCC) are enhancing its current partnership with Collier Primary School.

“We are the largest junior cricket club in WA and use 26 grounds every Saturday morning and we would be nowhere without the 6 primary schools and 2 high schools that we use,” SPJCC President Simon Mead said.

“We are really excited to upgrade the cricket pitch and nets here at Collier Primary School, because the kids will let you know, you don’t get much reward for your shots at the moment, it’s a little bit bumpy.

“Schools are the hub of the community, and I see firsthand the joy our players have when they come back on a Saturday morning with their family to play at their school.

As of July 2025, the program has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to 44 schools across 8 sporting codes.

This is a part of PlayOn WA - the WA Government's new initiative to help guide investment in community sport and recreation infrastructure across the State through to 2030.

Applications for Community Use of School Sporting Facilities Program are open until 12 September 2025
