Project update
The Perth Cultural Centre (PCC) rejuvenation project is in full swing with demolition works underway.
Over the past few months, significant steps have been taken as this iconic hub of Western Australia’s creative industries scene begins its transformation for a new future.
Demolition of the old amphitheatre between PICA and the State Library of WA is now complete, with the final sections removed.
The link between the Art Gallery of WA administration and gallery buildings is steadily being demolished.
The majority of pavers in the western area of the site have been removed, with demolition of reinforced concrete slabs ongoing.
New service infrastructure is being installed for lighting and power connections throughout the Cultural Centre.
Earthworks have commenced to build up portions of the site. These works are a vital first step in creating the new accessible walkway that will connect Beaufort and William Streets, ensuring its long-term structural integrity.
As structural works take shape, exciting plans are coming together behind the scenes!
We’re putting the final touches on thoughtfully designed landscaping elements that will transform the precinct into a vibrant, welcoming space where people can connect with nature, culture and each other. This includes components for community seating and communal gathering spaces to encourage moments of reflection, conversation and cultural exchange.
In collaboration with the Elders Reference group, we’ve identified and incorporated plant species native to the area, ensuring that the landscape honours the ecological and cultural significance of the land.
We’re also preparing to unveil an exciting public art initiative that will celebrate the cultural heritage of the Perth Cultural Centre. Stay tuned for more soon.
All cultural organisations and surrounding businesses remain open during this time. There is still so much to see and do in the PCC.
