Located in the heart of the Perth CBD, the heritage-listed King Street Arts Centre remains a vibrant hub for local creative industries and offers a range of spaces available for public hire.

Originally named Munster House and built in the early 1900s, the venue underwent extensive refurbishment in the late 1990s to become what is now the King Street Arts Centre.

In 2024, restoration works were completed on the building’s façade. The works included removing paint, remediating deteriorated mortar joints and brickwork, refreshing tuck-pointing, and restoring windows to their original design and condition.

The Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport (CITS) manages the venue on behalf of the WA Government. The King Street Arts Centre is home to 6 arts and cultural organisations, as well as 3 commercial tenancies located on the ground floor (facing Murray Street).

Bookings and hiring information

The King Street Arts Centre has meeting rooms and dance studios (5 spaces in total) that are available for hire.

Additional information:

  • Access to the hiring spaces are strictly only for the duration of your booking (this needs to include your set-up and pack-up times).
  • Lift access is via Murray Street entrance, while wheelchair access is available through the Munster Lane entrance.
  • Online bookings must be made at least two full business days in advance.
  • For booking enquiries you can contact (08) 6552 7872 or email ksac@cits.wa.gov.au during business hours (9 am to 3 pm weekdays; the office is not monitored during weekends and public holidays).
  • A current Certificate of Registration or Certificate of Incorporation is required for not-for-profit rates to be applied.

Small meeting room

Located on level 1, the small meeting room offers a comfortable and functional space ideal for professional meetings, workshops, and creative gatherings.

Whether you're hosting a team meeting, brainstorming session or small event, this space provides a versatile environment to suit your needs.

Large meeting room

Located on level 1, the large meeting room offers a spacious and versatile environment perfect for larger professional or creative gatherings.

This centrally located space provides a comfortable setting for presentations, workshops, team meetings or community events.

Studio one

Located on level 2 at the front of the King Street Arts Centre, studio one is a spacious and well-equipped venue ideal for movement-based and creative rehearsals.

This studio is perfect for dance, theatre or other creative rehearsals.

Please note – stilettos are not permitted at any time. Chunky heels, Latin, and Salsa dancing shoes are acceptable.

  • 50 person capacity
  • 14m x 11m
  • Evaporative air-conditioning and heating, one floor fan
  • Includes: 4 portable mirrors, track lighting and surround sound system with plug and play capability.

Fees (inc GST)

  • Standard rate: $22 per hour
  • Not-for-profit rate: $18.49 per hour

Studio two

Situated on level 2 in the middle of the King Street Arts Centre, studio two is a unique and versatile space perfect for ballet, movement-based and creative rehearsals.

It’s the only studio in the centre featuring Tarkett flooring and an upright piano.

Please note – due to the Tarkett flooring, only ballet shoes, yoga socks and sneakers are permitted in this studio.

  • 50 person capacity
  • 14m x 11m
  • Evaporative air-conditioning and heating, one floor fan
  • Includes: upright piano, wall mirrors, track lighting and surround sound system with plug and play capability.

  • Standard rate: $22 per hour
  • Not-for-profit rate: $18.49 per hour

Located on level 2 at the back of the King Street Arts Centre, studio three is a spacious and flexible venue ideal for movement-based activities and rehearsals.

This studio is perfect for dance, theatre or other creative rehearsals.

Location and parking

The King Street Arts Centre is located in the heart of the Perth CBD, at 357/365 Murray Street, Perth WA, 6000.

Parking information:

  • No parking is available at the King Street Arts Centre. The closest parking on Murray Street is available at the City of Perth Parking (CPP) His Majesty's carpark.
  • There are no reserved on-site car parking bays available for hirers using the Centre.
  • There is no parking available on Munster Lane (behind the Centre).
  • The City of Perth's local parking laws are applicable to the streets and laneways around the Centre.
