Intro
Teams from Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and a United Nations squad, saddled up for the high-agility discipline.
Event organiser Jess Joy said the week has created a buzz throughout Northam.
“You don’t have to be horsey to enjoy it,” she said.
“It’s high speed, high agility with riders jumping on and off ponies, bending, picking up objects from the ground.”
The ‘mane’ event has been 2 years in the making, led by a small team of volunteers, with a $20,000 grant from the WA Government playing a role in bringing the vision to life.
“That funding made a huge difference,” Ms Joy said.
“It allowed us to add live streaming and other enhancements that make the week exciting and memorable, not just for the riders, but for everyone watching around the world.”
Beyond the arena, the event is also a celebration of local hospitality.
Riders and support crews are staying on-site and participating in regional experiences including hot air ballooning, farm visits and excursions to Swan River and Kings Park.
The Championships ran from 8 – 14 September.
Western Australians are able to enjoy exciting sport and outdoor recreation events - tournaments to mass participation events thanks to funding through the WA Government.
