Intro

This session is designed to help Aboriginal people explore their family history in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. You’ll learn how AHWA can assist with family history research using our extensive collections of historical records, photographs, and archival materials - including personal, mission, and station files created by the State Government prior to 1972.

Our team are specialists in helping Aboriginal people access restricted State Government Welfare records (1886–1972) that may contain personal and sensitive information about themselves and their ancestors.

What you can expect:

  • An introduction to AHWA’s free family history research service.
  • Guidance on where important pieces of your family history may be found.
  • Time to ask questions and learn about AHWA’s resources and projects.
  • Optional one-on-one assistance at the end of the session to help you complete a family history application form.
